it wasn't the armourers fault, the film makers sent them home and then decided to keep shooting a scene involving a hand gun, without the armourer the prop department took over and didn't have the proper training. a bullet fragment was still lodged in the gun and when a blank was fired it was enough to propel it out and kill Brandon Lee. I don't think this film would of turned out the way it did had he have lived. He haunts every frame, and in the parts where they had to use camera tricks, doubles, and primitive CGI it added to the mystique and ghostly nature of the character. 30 years on they created something timeless.
